Step 1: Registration
First, go to the Home page www.TrainMyBrain.com, pull down the "Registration" button and choose Home User or Professional. If you are a professional organization desiring to offer Brain Power® to your patients, then choose "Professional." If you are a patient or family member desiring to use Brain Power® independently, you can register as a Home User by selecting "Home User."
You will be asked to provide basic User Information and Primary Contact Information. You will also create your Password, which will provide you with login access to the Brain Power® program as well as the Brain Power® website (with complete administrative functionality over your account).
Step
2: Download the Brain Power® Program and User Manual
Once registered, login at www.TrainMyBrain.com and choose "Programs" and select "Overview" to check the minimum system requirements required to run the Brain Power® program. It is important that every Home User, Professional Provider, Trainer, and Support Trainer have access to a computer that meets these minimum requirements, and has access to the internet.
Next (while logged in), go to the "Getting Started" tab at www.TrainMyBrain.com and choose "Program Download." You will be guided through the download and installation processes. After you install the program you can use your email address and password to login and run the program in Demonstration Mode for a training and orientation period of 15 days. Demonstration Mode will allow you to access all levels of the training program so that you can see how the program works and complete the Trainer Orientation. You should not attempt to train a patient in Demonstration Mode as none of the patient’s progress will be recorded in the database and they will have to start over.
While logged into the website, click on the "Reference Materials" tab to open up the Reference Material Library. Scroll down and find the "BRAIN POWER USER MANUAL" and download this document. This manual provides detailed information on the use of the Brain Power® Website and the Brain Power® Cognitive Skills Training Program. You will find this to be a valuable resource as you complete your Trainer Orientation (also included in the User Manual) and ultimately begin working with Brain Power®.
Step 3: Complete the Trainer Orientation
It is critical that the Brain Power® program be utilized in a standardized fashion. In order to administer this program correctly, there are certain basic skills that anyone administering the program will need to possess. Therefore, all Providers/Trainers and Home Users/Support Trainers will need to complete the Brain Power® Trainer Orientation in order to be certified to begin patient training.
The Brain Power® User Manual or Brain Power® Trainer Orientation will guide you through the process.
Step 4: Adding additional Users (for Professional Providers Only)
As the Administrator for your Provider account, you will be able to add additional users to your account and designate their status; i.e., OrgAmin (someone with administrative and training privileges), Staff (clerical staff with limited privileges to input data), Trainer (Organization staff who will be responsible for training designated patients) and Support Trainer (offsite home-based trainer such as a family member).
After Brain Power® Users have been set up, they can be assigned to individual Patients as they are added to the system.
The Brain Power® User Manual will guide you through this process.
Step 5: Adding Patients
It is easy to add Patients into your account database and begin training. By accessing "Patients" from the Administration toolbar, you will have complete access to all patient records.
Just press "Add" and fill in all of the information requested, including “Direct Pay By Support Trainer” if desired. For Providers, Direct Pay allows payment to be made directly by the patient through their designated Support Trainer. Just designate the Support Trainer (after entering them as a User - see step #4), to have them pay for Brain Power® directly (see below). From there you will be able to input the patient’s psychiatric, medical and medication histories, as well as any test results from prior evaluations. It is very important that you take the time to enter the results of any cognitive assessments that have been performed. This will allow you to later run very important individual and group statistical reports.
The Brain Power® User Manual will guide you through this process.
Step 6: Purchase Training Credits
It will be necessary to purchase credits for the 1-hour training sessions in advance of training a patient. Training Credits can be purchased by the Provider/Organization or by the Support Trainer/Patient by accessing the administrative functions on the website.
Each time a training session is used for that patient, regardless if training is provided by the Trainer or Support Trainer, it will be deducted from the credit balance of the designated “responsible party”. The responsible party will be notified when their credit balance gets low (20 credits).
The Brain Power® User Manual will guide you through this process.
This overview is intended to provide a brief introduction to the basic functionality of the website and what you need to know to begin treating a patient with Brain Power®. Please refer to the Brain Power® User Manual for detailed information regarding the functionality of this program and the website.
